Sky Garden

Thick black eyelashes made of mink fur.
Shoulders cloaked in zig zags & embroidered dragons.
No smile.
petite yet flamboyant
On the streets of New York City, she
collects cast offs.
Table limbs, banisters, wooden planks.
An architect of monochrome constructions.
Grows a garden for the sky.

Environment of wonder.
Living altar reveals nested objects.
Black acrylic paint tinted by shadows.
Shapes form visions.
black is the most aristocratic color
of all
Cathedral of dreams.
Eight feet of surface drama.
Assemblage of echoes in wood.
Cast of crates.
we must create our own world
Sculpture stands & moves within space.
Rectilinear remnants, theatrical vestments.
Eyes travel across boxes.
Transforms detritus for the Otherworld.

ミンクの毛でできた黒々としたまつ毛。
肩にはジグザグ模様と龍の刺繍が施された外套。
微笑みはない。
小柄ながらも華やか
ニューヨークの街を散策しながら、彼女は捨てられたものを拾い集める。
テーブルの脚、手すり、木の板。
モノクロの構築物をうみだす建築家。
天空へ伸びる庭を育てる。
奇抜なリサイクラー
驚異にみちた環境。
生きた祭壇には、オブジェが巣のように重なりあう。
黒のアクリル塗料に影がほのかに差し込む。
形が幻影を創る。
黒は最も貴族的な色
夢を積み重ねた大聖堂。
八フィートの表面に広がるドラマ。
木霊するアッサンブラージュ。
木箱の造形物。
私たちは自らの世界を創らねばならない
彫刻はそびえ立ち、空間の中を動く。
直線的な遺物、芝居がかった衣装。
目は箱から箱へ旅をする。
廃材を変容させ、異世界へ向かう。

Maw Shein Win's latest full-length poetry collection is Percussing the Thinking Jar (Omnidawn, 2024). Her previous full-length collection Storage Unit for the Spirit House (Omnidawn, 2020) was nominated for the Northern California Book Award in Poetry, longlisted for the PEN America Open Book Award, and shortlisted for the Golden Poppy Award for Poetry. Her work has recently been published in The American Poetry Review, The Margins, The Bangalore Review, and other journals. She is the inaugural poet laureate of El Cerrito, CA.
